PL Lenses on Canon EOS Bodies

Some of us have always dreamed of sticking a big cinema lens on our little t3i and shooting something cinematic to say we did. This is actually surprisingly doable. How? Well:

The only thing separating your Master Primes from your T3i
The only thing separating your Master Primes from your T3i

IT IS EASY TO MOUNT PL LENSES ON CANON EOS BODIES

The ability of a lens to adapt to a camera body is defined by one simple number: the flange focal distance. If the distance is longer for the lens than the receiving camera body, you only need to space it further away from the camera body. The flange distance for PL lenses is 52mm, while a camera with an EF mount has a flange focal distance of 44m. The math checks out, so all you have to do is buy a simple metal adapter and get your hands on some PL glass.

HOWEVER, Not all PL lenses are created equal. FotodioX, a leading manufacturer of lens adapters, warns that:

“Some PL mount lenses can damage the camera or the lens when mounted to a camera with an EF mount using this adapter. This is unavoidable if the adapter is to maintain the correct flange focal distance, and you should confirm and test that any lens used with this adapter maintains the necessary clearance throughout the focus range.”

On their B&H product page, they list many lenses confirmed to work cleanly. Start there, and proceed with cautious optimism.
