Details

Up for sale is a set of Canon nFD Prime lenses which have been “cinevised” by converting to an EF mount, as well as having focus gears from FollowFocusGears.com added. They also include 77mm step up rings and 77mm front caps to allow for larger filters to be used. This set allows you to cover a full range of focal lengths. I also took great care to source lenses with the faster apertures (compare these 35mm and 24mm f/2 to the more common f/2.8). Included lenses: Canon nFD 24mm f/2 Canon nFD 35mm f/2 Canon nFD 50mm f/1.4 Canon nFD 85mm f/1.8 Canon nFD 135mm f/2.8 All lenses are in excellent condition. Optics are free from haze, fungus, or oil on blades. The lens bodies are in very good condition with some normal wear for their age. In full disclosure, the 35mm lens does have the slightest bit of play in the focus ring. It does not prevent accurate focus, but you can feel about 1mm of play when you first engage it. Focus is smooth after that. The EF conversion on these lenses (from FDtoEF.com) does not use an optical element like the cheap adapters available on Amazon. This is important if you want to avoid the nasty “onion ring” bokeh effect. Not to mention, why put another piece of cheap optics in front of these and degrade the image? Additionally, the EF mounts completely replace the nFD mount and are permanently secured. No adapter wiggle here! The focus rings from FollowFocusGears.com go for about $35 a piece + shipping. Conversion mounts from FDtoEF.com go for about $130 a piece + shipping. Altogether, the focus gears and the adapters cost me around $850 alone. Going by current ebay prices, the lenses and these upgrades would set you back about $2,000. This set is being offered at $1600, which is less than what it cost me to build it, and quite a bit less than the current going rate for some of these lenses on the used market. If you have read about these lenses before, you may already know that they share the same optical design as the legendary K35 cinema lenses, costing much much more and being used in movies you probably have seen. I am only selling these lenses to fund other gear purchases, since they don’t get used enough in my current work. Here is a great video example of what these lenses can look like (not my video): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mscWYD6saCo&t=79s It’s hard to show these lenses well in the cell phone pictures, so I am happy to meet you and let you try them on your camera if you are considering the set. I will also consider selling lenses individually, but price per lens will be higher individually than bundled in the set, and I will give preference to full set inquiries. For less than the cost of a single modern prime you can have an entire set of vintage, vibey, goodness, with an optical design seen in major hollywood films.
