Xin Li is a producer and director born and raised in China. After she earned her degree in journalism from the University of Kansas, Xin became a journalist and published writer for Portrait, a renowned Chinese feature magazine based in Beijing. While at Portrait, she interviewed public figures such as Chinese auteur Jia Zhangke, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, Hugo Award-winning author Robert Sawyer.
After discovering her passion for documentary filmmaking in college, Xin has since worked with established documentarians based in London, Beijing, and Los Angeles. She earned an MFA from the USC School of Cinematic Arts in 2017. In the past three years, Xin has directed and produced award-winning fiction and documentary films about immigrant culture and history. In 2018, Xin was recognized by the City of Los Angeles for producing a documentary series that focus on LGBTQ immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers in Los Angeles. She is also a recipient of 2019 Visual Communications’ Armed with a Camera Fellowship for Emerging Media Artists.
