Jaime Villa-Ruiz is a Puerto Rican Director of Photography and Cinematographer. In 2007 he received a Bachelors of Science in Film and Television from Boston University. He is about to receive his MFA from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts Asia in May 2015, after completing his thesis requirements.
Breaking into the industry as a grip, he worked as a production assistant in independent feature films like The Condemmed, and as assistant for production designers in Puerto Rico for commercial productions including clients like Heineken, AT&T, and Wal-Mart.
He has worked as Director of Photography/Cinematographer for short films and TVC’s in China, Korea, Indonesia, Nepal, Philippines, Puerto Rico, Singapore, Thailand, and the United States. He has also directed short films in Asia and Puerto Rico.
While in Singapore acted as Director of Photography/Cinematographer on Nike’s Side by Side featuring Neymar, and on a documentary shoot for Earth Observatory of Singapore on location in Nepal, among many other projects.
Jaime recently relocated to Los Angeles, California to continue working as a Director of Photography and Cinematographer. His recent work includes covering the Super Bowl XLIX for a YouTube Channel, Paloma a Jean Lee Short Film, and Right Hand Man Web Series.
