Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, Jon Shaivitz began his filmmaking career at the age of 19 when he gained his first production experiences working on docu-reality shows for Discovery Networks, TLC, HGTV and National Geographic while simultaneously pursing his degree from the University of Maryland. He quickly acquired on-set skills that would ultimately lead to a full time producing and editing position at Rock Creek Productions, Inc. of Washington D.C. where he worked on dozens of programs from SAG industrials to marketing and advertising for major Federal Agencies such as DOD, DHS and the United States Air Force. After two years and many productions later Jon took his skills to Los Angeles where he began working in feature-film and television script development at Sony Pictures, Universal Studios and Valhalla Motion Pictures for some of the most accomplished Producers around including Lynda Obst (Contact, Interstellar), Marc Platt (Legally Blonde, Drive) and Gale Anne Hurd (The Terminator, The Walking Dead).
Throughout his time in development Jon worked tirelessly to build his Directing portfolio as both a narrative and commercial filmmaker. To date, Jon has directed over a half-dozen commercials including an award-winning brand film for Charles River Apparel of Boston, MA and a now-famous commercial spot for the dating website FarmersOnly.com. Jon’s work has appeared on major national networks including CNN and ESPN, broadcast during major worldwide events like the 2014 World Cup. His directing work didn’t stop there as he went on to producing and directing corporate and marketing material for BET, Nickelodeon, Paramount Pictures and several other Viacom companies. Most recently Jon’s short film “No Longer There” was selected to have its world premier at the Los Angeles International Short Film Festival aka LA Shorts Fest -- one of the most prestigious/only short film festival that is sanctioned by and qualifies for the Academy of Motion Picture Art and Sciences Awards (OSCARS.org).
