Hi guys! I’ve been working as a DP and Gaffer (while steadicamming on the side) for 14 years, and I'm here on sharegrid to help you get the gear and crew you need using the budget you have.
I’m a guy who spent half of his life growing up in South Asia and the other half growing up on set. I have a love for light and I’m damn good at shaping it into a story. I handle stress like Steve Irwin handled snakes, smile a lot, and care about doing things right.
My interest in film stems almost entirely from a powerful obsession with light that I seem to have been born with. As a result, I enjoy narrative work, commercials and music videos the most, i.e. projects where I have the most creative control and freedom over lighting. Nonetheless, 30-40% of my work as a DP has been in the documentary realm because working on films that help people and the planet is important to me. I’m proud to say that my most recent feature, Unrest, made it to the final 15 for best doc at the oscars. It premiered on PBS and is available on Netflix and amazon in case you can’t think of anything better to watch this evening. ;)
I was born in Bangladesh and grew up in Indonesia, India, and Costa Rica before moving to California when I was 14 in order to study film and experience culture shock for the first time. After four years in California I moved to New York to study at NYU and see what all the hype was about. I quickly I transferred out of the film department in order to study cinematography in my own way: by focusing on light and optics within the physics dept., visual perception in psych and a dash of art history/fine arts/photo theory to round things out a bit.
I worked in NY for a while after graduating and just recently moved back to LA. I'm still pretty fresh off the boat out here, so I'm excited to meet new friends and work with good people on good projects.
