(Photos of my actual lens coming soon) This might be the ultimate documentary lens, and has quickly become my favorite b-roll lens to pair with the Sony FS7 in Center Crop 2K mode. It has roughly the field of view of 19-378mm in Super-35 terms, so you always have the focal length you need from wide to extreme telephoto. Canon Super-16 zooms got some press a while back for their use on HURT LOCKER. These days we can can really take advantage of these incredible, fast, light-weight zooms now that so many cameras offer a 16mm or 2K Center-Crop feature. Almost all of Sony's high-end Super 35 cameras, Arri, Canon, Panasonic and of course any RED camera all have the ability to take advantage of using the center of the image sensor and utilize some of the best glass out there. And of course the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera has a native Super 16 sensor that pairs really well with this lens. Both my Sony FS7 and Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera are available to rent along with this lens. Also, if you have used the 2K Center Crop feature with Fujinon or Canon 2/3" ENG lenses with the new optical adapters out there, you know from experience that you can't shoot the lenses wide-open because of all the crazy aberrations you get. I'm speaking from experience on this one. The best you can do is shoot at about a T2.8 / T4 split if you don't mind your wide angle shots being extremely soft. Also with the optical unit enlarging the image circle you lose about a stop of light. From the tests I did, you are actually shooting at about a T4.5 in order to get a usable image. Shooting with Super 16 lenses means there is no optical adapter between your lens and the camera, which means you not only retain the lens' characteristics and high speed but also it's depth of field. Weather you want the ultimate documentary lens option or just want to capture the amazing vintage look of Super 16, this lens is such a great choice. If you are not familiar with OpTex, they produced some of the best rehoused cinema lenses of anyone. I have a 25+ year old rehoused Canon 135mm f2 FD lens, and it's still working perfectly. They rehoused a few Canon zooms that feature a longer focus throw and proper cinema mechanics. The optics of this lens are all Canon. LENS SPECS: Maximum Aperture: T2.4 Min. Focus: 4ft. Weight: 5.75 lbs. Front Dia.: 98mm PL Mount
