This boom is your average clean sounding boom. It is incredibly clean when people are talking loud enough and the boom is close enough. It's all about the mixer and any modulation and cleanup done in post to remove any audio hum in the background. The boom that is better with quiet talkers is the Audio Technica 4073a https://www.sharegrid.com/losangeles/l/64256-at4073a-boom-microphone-boom-pole?sharetofacebook=true The 897 is your boom for your average mildly loud person. I wouldn't recommend it for a quiet talker. I would recommend the 4073a for a quiet speaker. I have however, been in an instance where the 4073a was overmodulating even at the lowest setting on the mixer, but the 897 came in handy by being able to record drums at a quiet setting. You can view the video where the 897 was the preferred mic here: http://jbcameraproductions.com/brandon-stegall-the-solo/ The 897 runs on a single AA battery, but I believe that it can run on Phantom Power an an option. If you are curious I will check for you. Just ask. This combo package comes with a boom pole by Proaim which does not have an xlr going in at the top and coming out at the bottom, unlike the combo package with the 4073a https://www.sharegrid.com/losangeles/l/64256-at4073a-boom-microphone-boom-pole?sharetofacebook=true If you've scouted the location and you know there is going to be heavy wind, I recommend getting a zeppelin cover https://www.sharegrid.com/losangeles/l/64227?type=rent Zeppelin cover's are useful for heavy wind protection. To tell you the truth, this was most useful to me in SF. In LA, it's not as windy, except by the beach. I've also been out to the desert and it is windy out there. So if you're filming out in the desert might consider getting the zeppelin cover. If you need any mixers, here are my mixers from highest rank: Zoom F4 (four channel polywav 24-bit recorder, expandable by two channels): https://www.sharegrid.com/losangeles/l/115994?type=rent Zoom H6 (four channel mono 24-bit recorder, expandable by two channels): https://www.sharegrid.com/losangeles/l/85204?type=rent Zoom H4n (two input stereo 24 bit/four channel mono 24 bit with two omnidirectional mic tracks on recorder top) https://www.sharegrid.com/losangeles/l/64208?type=rent Last, if you need an Orca Sound bag, to keep all the lavaliers organized, you may find it here: https://www.sharegrid.com/losangeles/l/86996?type=rent If you need any lavaliers, I have quite a few to choose from here: https://www.sharegrid.com/losangeles/l/103859?type=rent
