Meet Our Staff: Kristy Breneman
"Film is such a strong medium, it guides and reflects our principals and values, it brings people together for a shared experience in the most unique sense.”
Kristy Breneman’s favorite movie right now is “Moonlight.” Her favorite TV show is “Atlanta.” These choices are hardly surprising considering that ShareGrid’s new City Manager for Atlanta has a passion for diversity and is compelled by the progress of the Atlanta film community. When asked what inspires her to be involved in the film industry, she responds:
“Community. Film is such a strong medium, it guides and reflects our principals and values, it brings people together for a shared experience in the most unique sense.”
Kristy began her involvement in the Atlanta film community with an internship at Wonderroot, which is (from their website) “an arts organization the works to improve the cultural landscape in Atlanta through creative initiatives and community partnerships.” Kristy credits them with many of her ethics today.
“The value system I adopted with my experience at WonderRoot is what drives my work today. Not only does WonderRoot give artists the resources they need to improve their craft and succeed, but it also fosters the growth of community organizers; those behind the scenes making things happen.”
Since then, Kristy has been an Associate Producer at Indie ATL, an arts initiative from Georgia State Univeristy, a Co-Founder of New Mavericks, a meet-up and film festival supporting women in the Atlanta film community, and a Creative Director at the Atlanta Film Society, which produces the Atlanta Film Festival and promotes education and other events year-round (New Mavericks being one of them). When asked to describe the Atlanta Film Society, Kristy is thorough.
"I see the Atlanta Film Society as a creative hub for the Atlanta film scene.
- Presenting local and international work that pushes the boundaries of cinema.
- Providing networking and educational opportunities for industry professionals and those wanting to get their foot in the door.
- Supporting and fostering homegrown talent by providing them with the resources and tools necessary to succeed.
We want to see Atlanta make a name for itself in the film world and to create an identity that isn't beholden to the traditional standards of LA and NYC."
So what brings Kristy to ShareGrid? You guessed it; community.
"I am a big fan of companies that make peer to peer transactions possible. I love that ShareGrid fosters connections within its community of users. Not only does it provide a service that allows independent filmmakers to make money by listing their equipment, but also provides a low cost option for filmmakers to obtain all the gear necessary for a successful production."
We're very excited have Kristy on our team as the Atlanta and ShareGrid evolve and converge. If you haven't already, check out the trailer for "Moonlight." It is really really good.
