How to Shoot Time Lapse Videos on the Canon 5D Mark IV

In previous iterations of the Canon 5D, as well as most of their lower-tier models, recording a time lapse required an external intervalometer or Magic Lantern software. With the Canon 5D Mark IV, a time lapse movie can easily be recorded internally.

1. Enable "Time-lapse Movie"

In camera Menu 5, scroll down and select time lapse movie. If you are satisfied with the settings, click Enable.

2. Alter The Settings (Optional)

null

If you are not satisfied with the settings, press the info button to change them. Interval is time gap between photos, which is multiplied by the number of shots to give us the time required. Press OK to lock them in, then navigate back to Menu 5/Time Lapse Movie.

3. Activate Time Lapse Movie

If you are satisfied with the settings now, click Enable, then press Menu to exit.

4. Test Your Shot

In live view, read the instructions and press OK. Press the shutter button to take test shots, and adjust your exposure, focus, and framing as you normally would.

5. Begin The Time Lapse

Press the record button to prepare the time lapse, then press the shutter button to begin the time lapse. The LCD will turn off during shooting.

6. End The Time Lapse

To cancel the time lapse at any time, press either the shutter button or the start/stop button. The movie recorded so far will be saved.
