How to Use the Canon C200 Touchscreen

By adding touch functionality to the C200’s monitor, Canon has introduced a very simple yet incredibly useful focus tool.  If this is your first time using it, you are in for a treat. But first, let’s get it properly set up.

1. Mounting the Monitor

To mount the touch monitor on the C200 body, you will most likely want to use Canon’s LA-V1 attachment unit. The unit screws onto the front of C200’s top handle, and the port on the side of the monitor plugs directly into the socket of the LA-V1.

But that’s not your only mounting option. If you have your own arm, cage, or bracket that you want to use, there is a good old fashioned 1/4” option as well. This makes it very modular and easy to fit into your existing package.

2. Using the Touch Screen with Dual-Pixel Autofocus

If you have set up dual-pixel autofocus (see our other guide to find out how), then you will find that you have a remarkable amount of control over the precise focus of the camera. Simply touch the area you want to focus on, and the focus will shift to it. In the autofocus settings menu, you can change the size of the focus box as well.

3. Using the Touch Screen to Check Focus

One excitingly intuitive feature is the ability to drag your focus magnification box. Press the magnification button on the camera body to zoom in, and then slide your finger across the screen to identify the exact area you want to inspect.

In Conclusion

Canon’s new proprietary touch screen is a joy to use and a wonderful addition to the Dual-Pixel Autofocus system. The wide variety of mounting options mean it will find a home on any rig or build, and the build quality will keep it there for years to come.
